HARMAN Professional Solutions Introduces the JBL Intonato 24 Studio Monitor Management Tuning System
Posted: 19 Jan 2017 10:00 AM PST

The industry’s first system with automated speaker calibration that makes immersive audio production possible in any environment

NAMM (Booth #7800), ANAHEIM, Calif.—HARMAN Professional Solutions today announced the new JBL Intonato 24 Monitor Management Tuning System, the industry’s most comprehensive solution for easy set up, precise automated calibration, and complete control of monitoring systems in stereo, surround, and immersive audio production rooms. Housed in a 2U rack-mount enclosure and shipping with more included I/O than any monitoring control solution available today, Intonato 24 can calibrate and control systems of up to 24 speakers with customized recallable routing of up to 24 sources selected from 24 dedicated analog, 24 digital and 256 networked audio sources. Included software and an optional Desktop Controller put the system’s powerful monitoring features at your fingertips, and take control room monitoring to the next level.

“While the approach to control room monitoring has remained relatively consistent over the years, audio signal paths, production workflows, and production spaces have evolved tremendously,” said Peter Chaikin, Director, Recording Solutions at HARMAN International. “With Intonato 24, JBL set out to create the heart of a complete next-generation system that takes control room monitoring to the next level, empowering content creators to produce consistently superior output regardless of the spaces where they find themselves—or the formats they are asked to deliver.”

Intonato 24 includes a calibration microphone and innovative Automated Speaker Calibration process that “tunes” each speaker to compensate for speaker placement and room acoustics, delivering neutral response to the mix position–even in less-than-ideal work spaces. The result is a finely-tuned system that takes the guesswork out of mixing by tackling room-related low-frequency issues and precisely matching the level and “time-of-flight” from each speaker to the mix position.

Intonato 24 comes standard with the most I/O in its class and features flexible internal routing and a mixer to provide unprecedented monitoring flexibility.  With the power to manage monitoring systems of up to 24 speakers–including up to four subwoofers that can be assigned as “Bass Management” subs with selectable crossover settings–Intonato 24 is compatible with all monitoring formats including stereo, 5.1, 7.1 and makes immersive monitoring possible in any control room. In addition, with the ability to patch, route, and selectively monitor any combination of 24 analog, 24 digital and 256 networked sources including DANTE via an optional interface, Intonato 24 will easily be right at home in any professional studio environment.

An intuitive graphical user interface allows you to control Intonato 24 from Mac, Windows, and a range of tablets. Complete configurations, including speaker setup parameters, EQ, subwoofer settings, input source patching, and down-mix preferences can be stored as “profiles” and “scenes” and instantly recalled (even mid-session) to meet the requirements of specific projects and clients. The optional Intonato Desktop Controller puts monitor system control at your fingertips, providing elegant control of system volume, recall of user-configured scenes, activation of speaker mutes and solos, and other frequently used features.

Intonato 24 pairs with JBL 7 Series and JBL M2 Master Reference studio monitors to create the first complete monitoring system designed for immersive audio production in control rooms of any size. While Intonato 24 was designed as the hub of JBL’s new 7 Series installed reference monitor system, the unit can be used with any passive or powered speaker. In addition, HARMAN BLU link network protocol allows Intonato 24 to be digitally networked with Crown power amplifiers and an assortment of system components.

Availability
The JBL Intonato 24 will be available through authorized resellers starting in February 2017, with the optional Intonato Remote becoming available mid-year.

AKG by HARMAN Unveils The C636 Master Reference Handheld Condenser Microphone
Posted: 19 Jan 2017 10:00 AM PST
New handheld live vocal microphone combines legendary studio-quality sound with innovative acoustical advances for flawless live performances

NAMM (Booth #7800), ANAHEIM, Calif.—AKG by HARMAN today announced the new AKG C636 master reference handheld condenser microphone. Building on the legendary studio-quality sound of the acclaimed C535 microphone, the C636 innovates by providing professional singers with unparalleled stage reliability and performance. In addition to a custom-tuned capsule with hand-selected components, the C636 is engineered to reject feedback, handling noise and pop noise so vocalists can fully focus on their performance.

“A singer’s voice is their single most important instrument, and the AKG C636 captures their sound in the most unfiltered, uncompressed and natural way possible,” said Erich Gaertner, Product Line Manager, HARMAN Professional Solutions. “The original C535 is renowned for its legendary audio quality and has appeared on countless stages worldwide. With the C636, we’ve kept that same sound and updated the design with state-of-the-art technology to create a stage microphone that combines best-in-class sound quality and onstage reliability.”

The AKG C636 features three proprietary technologies that are designed to address several common problems singers face on stage, including feedback, handling noise and pop noise.

The C636 essentially eliminates feedback by combining a uniform cardioid polar pattern throughout the entire frequency spectrum with a specially designed suspension and grille for the capsule. This unique approach to housing the capsule avoids unwanted sound reflections on the back of the capsule, ensuring feedback and spill over rejection.
The C636 innovates by integrating the world’s first double shock suspension system, greatly reducing unwanted handling noise. The capsule sits on a highly absorbent rubber bearing that eliminates any structure-based noise, while an adjustable balancing network cancels vibrations over a wide frequency range.
A multilayer protection system prevents unwanted pop noises. The protection system consists of the grille, a foam layer behind the grille and a magnetically attached computer-modeled mesh layer on top of the capsule—providing singers with a clear, plosive-free vocal performance. This three-layer protection system is virtually unique to AKG and sets the new standard for pop noise suppression in the market.

In addition, thanks to a robust, zinc-alloy housing with a spring steel grille and 24-carat gold-plated capsule, the C636 is extremely rugged and durable enough to last a lifetime of performances.

Availability
The AKG C636 will be available through authorized resellers starting in April 2017.

HARMAN Professional Solutions Introduces the DOD Rubberneck Analog Delay Pedal
Posted: 19 Jan 2017 09:15 AM PST
New double-wide analog delay pedal delivers double the features, enabling guitarists to shape, bend and control time in exciting new ways

NAMM (Booth #7800), ANAHEIM, Calif.—HARMAN Professional Solutions today introduced the DOD Rubberneck analog delay stompbox, allowing guitar and bass players to create unique musical delay textures and explore new time-based performance effects. The Rubberneck features over one second of pure analog delay with tap tempo for custom time settings, as well as double concentric knobs for shaping the modulation, gain and tone of the effect. The pedal is named after its unique “Rubberneck” feature which gives players the ability to pitch shift from one time setting to another in real-time.

“Rubberneck combines warm and musical 100% analog repeats with unique features and functionality to unlock new creative directions and performance possibilities,” said Tom Cram, Marketing Manager, DigiTech, HARMAN Professional Solutions. “From slapback delays to dizzying pitch sweeps and time stretches, Rubberneck lets discerning players approach their tone and instrument in entirely new ways.”

Rubberneck’s controls include a TIME knob which allows players to set delay times from 30ms to 1000ms, with up to 1500ms delay time available by using the tap tempo footswitch. The transparent RUBBERNECK RATE control pot features a built-in bi-color LED to indicate different operating modes, and lets players control the delay time produced when the footswitch is pressed and held. The REPEATS knob controls the number of repeats the pedal will create, from single note slapbacks to the runaway oscillations analog delays are known for. RATE and DEPTH knobs control the amount of delay modulation to create sounds from subtle chorusing to wild vibrato/tremolo textures. A TAP RATIO switch makes it easy to get repeats that are in time, create triplets, or achieve a doubled feel. GAIN/TONE knobs allow players to shape the tone of the delay by increasing the brightness, darkening the sound and adding more gain. And a LEVEL knob controls the overall output level of the delay signal.

Other controls that add to Rubberneck’s unique functionality include the TAILS switch and REGEN ADJUST knob. The TAILS switch allows players to choose if they want repeats to be heard when bypassing the pedal. The REGEN ADJUST knob flashes the current delay time and adjusts the regen/repeat settings of the secondary delay that is enabled by pressing the TEMPO/REGEN footswitch.

A TRS loop send/return, instrument 1/4” input and output, as well as an FS3X footswitch provide guitarists with greater routing flexibility with amps and external effects. True bypass electronics ensure the purest signal path possible while the pedal is disengaged. Rubberneck uses a 9VDC power supply to easily integrate into any existing pedalboard.

The Rubberneck effect pedal will be available in April 2017 at $312.44 MSRP ($249.95 MAP).
